RIDGECREST, KERN COUNTY — November 4, 2026. Jeremy “JV” Vaughan had a large lead over Megan Washington in the first reported mayoral election count following the November 3 vote. Decision Desk HQ’s published results showed 2,492 votes (69.28%) for Vaughan and 1,105 (30.72%) for Washington. The report was timestamped November 3 at 11:49 p.m. Eastern time, equivalent to 8:49 p.m. Pacific, and listed 3,597 reported candidate votes. This is an early media tabulation, not a certified Kern County result.

What Ridgecrest voters were deciding

Ridgecrest voters also selected City Council representatives in a distinct at-large contest. The available DDHQ council tracker showed no numerical returns for that contest, so California58 is not presenting an unsupported council outcome. The region’s ballots also included school district and special-district races, including Sierra Sands Unified School District and Indian Wells Valley Water District positions.

Why the mayor’s race matters

The next mayor will be involved in decisions on roads, land use, public safety, city finances and Ridgecrest’s relationships with surrounding desert communities. Ridgecrest’s municipal electorate is separate from unincorporated Trona and Searles Valley. A person’s use of Ridgecrest businesses or services does not make them a Ridgecrest voter.

Official results versus early returns

County canvassing can continue for weeks as eligible ballots are verified and counted. Readers should refer to the Kern County Elections Division for official local election reporting, and to the linked DDHQ result for the exact preliminary snapshot cited above. California58 will not describe Vaughan as officially elected until appropriate evidence supports that conclusion.
